It’s the stuff that fairy tales are made of…one minute you’re thinking about how to pursue your life long dream to be on stage, the next you’re preparing for your fourth show, and all in one year! That’s the story of Felisha Lord, and she is absolutely amazed at how quickly her career in theatre has developed. No stranger to the public, Lord was initially a host on Hype TV, and has also appeared on local mini-series, Royal Palm Estate, as well as in several commercials. The stage is however where she mostly had her eyes set, and as luck would have it, a golden opportunity presented itself.
“I was doing some production work with the television series “Me and Mi Kru”, and mentioned to Deon Silvera that I wanted to do theatre. She suggested that I make a pitch to Paul Beale, the writer of the series who is also responsible for several hit comedies; he invited me to audition,” she explains.
Since that fateful meeting, Lord has starred in “Like Father Like Son”, “Money Worries” and “The Extortionitz”. While she feels honoured that Stages Productions has shown such faith in her abilities, she believes that her constant presence on stage has mainly been due to her discipline approach. “I am always determined to make my character stand out, and that whatever I do is memorable to the audience. That not only requires hard work, but willingness to step out of the box,” she stressed.
Her latest role is that of ‘Darling’ in Passa Passa Daily, the third production in the extremely popular Passa Passa series. Darling is the wife of community leader Nyah (Orville Hall) and Lord describes her as having a multi-layered personality. While trying not to give too much away, she has given a little insight into the character. “Darling is a fun-loving person, but she is also very unpredictable as she tries to adapt whatever situation that comes her way. She’ll be nice and sweet, but that can change to aggressive and demanding in just one moment.” It is these changes in moods, coupled with an intriguing South American accent, that Lord promises will get audiences caught up every single night.
Passa Passa Daily has a stellar cast led by Cleve Warren (Chu Chu), Audrey Reid (Bibsy), Stede Flash (Officer Roy Lickshot), Orville Hall (Nyah), Suzette Barrett (Pearl), Patrick Smith (Mayor Blackwood), Luke Ellington (Stylish) and Evelyn Forbes (Icilda). Written by Everton Dawkins and directed by Garfield Reid, Passa Passa Daily plays Wednesday to Saturday at 8:30 pm and on Sundays at 5:00 pm and 8:30 pm. For ticket info call 926-4966 and 929-5315.
