According to a report in today’s Jamaica Observer newspaper, Jamaican plays – despite a call to “come laugh out the recession” – are feeling the pinch and seemingly struggling. The box office receipts for plays are not publicly available but Dahlia Harris (a star of several plays and a marketing executive at the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission) has said that few plays are profitable, and that some plays have reduced the number of shows or slashed their budget as cost cutting measures … more here.
